In between the exit to Preveli Beach and Preveli Monastery (Piso) you will find the Preveli International Memorial for Resistance and Peace, commemorating the people who gave their lives in the Battle of Crete in 1941.
If you don't have a car, you can take the bus to Preveli monastery and back. You walk the 800 metes to the War Memorial and keep walking till the exit to Preveli palm beach, another 450 meters, where the next bus stop is. Or you can ask the driver to drop you off at the War Memorial and walk on to the monastery.
