Plakias Walk 8
This is truly a magnificent walk. You walk from the beautiful Preveli Bridge to the very well renovated ruins of Preveli Monastery (Kato) where you feel like you've been thrown back in history. From the monastery the walk continues alongside the river towards Preveli Beach with breathtaking views of the surroundings, the Megalopotomas (river) and the imposing cliffs of the Preveli Gorge. Then it's down to the famous Preveli Beach, Lagoon and Palm Forest. The path on the other side of the river takes you back up to Preveli Bridge.
The walk is a hilly and includes 450 steps down to the beach and a steep climb back up on the other side, but when you take your time almost anyone can do it!
There are a few options of transportation for this walk. You can drive with your car or the bus to Preveli Bridge and back again to Plakias or you can only do half the walk and take the boat back to Plakias from Preveli Beach (€9 2023 - several times a day, check at the pier the day before the walk).
When you take the bus, you have to ask the driver to drop you off at Gefira, the Preveli Bridge, because it is not an official stop. To go back you will have to wave at the bus when it passes.
