On the way from Plakias to the famous piso Preveli monastery and unique Preveli palm forest, lagoon and beach you will pass this beautiful bridge over the Kourtaliotis River. The bridge is known to many as the Venetian Bridge but it was in fact build by locals and paid for by the nearby kato Preveli monastery in the early 1850's.
There is a taverna right at the bridge to enjoy the lush, green surroundings while having food or drinks.
The bridge is also the starting point for walk 8, an amazing circular walk along the cliffs of the Preveli gorge to Preveli palm forest, lagoon and beach.
You can take the Plakias to Preveli bus 5 times a day in the season and tell the driver to stop at Gefira (Greek for bridge). Click on the logo for the up-to-date schedules and choose "Departures from Rethymno".
