On the way from Plakias to Spili you will find one of the many abandoned villages on Crete, old or kato Mixorrouma, along the Kissanos river. Surrounded by abandoned houses which are slowly taken over by nature it has a real particular feel to it when you are walking through the old streets. The church is still in use and a few ruins are being renovated.
Coming by car from Plakias take a right turn in Ano Mixorrouma just before a bakery.
